$34,048-$44,981

Hours Per Week:

40 hours per week plus overtime as required. 

Additional Information:

The Home Liaison Worker is responsible to the Principal..

The  Home Liaison Worker will have specific responsibilities for:

  1. Communicates with parents/guardians on behalf of school for the purpose of ensuring that an ongoing partnership between the home and school is formed.
    1. Visits families and students in their homes as required for the purpose of assessing situations, improving communication, providing information regarding school policies and programs, and/or providing referrals.
    2. Assists in transporting students home from school as directed by the school principal.
    3. Coordinates home visits and parent meetings as directed by the school principal.
    4. Assists in transporting families to and from school as needed for essential school meetings and other related activities as directed by the school principal. 
    5. Delivers letters, forms and other messages to the families of students, at their place of residence, under the direction of the principal, for the purpose of having those documents read, signed and returned to the school as needed. 
    6. Encourages students and their families to actively engage in schooling, day to day school attendance, and participation in other school based activities. 
    7. With written parental consent, assists in the transporting of students to appointments with wrap-around support agencies such as mental health, medical and other essential services as required and as directed by the school principal. 
    8. Bridge the gap between home and school by building relationships with students and their families and then subsequently facilitating the meeting and building of relationships between students and their families with other members of the school community. ie. school leadership team, school based counsellors and other support workers, etc. 
    9. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the school principal in providing necessary records/materials.
    10. Models calmness in times of crisis.
  2. Additional Responsibilities  
    1. Willing to engage in lifelong learning with respect to professional development, training, in-services and courses of study.
    2. Performs other duties assigned by the school principal or members of the Student Services Branch.

Qualifications 

  • Certificate or diploma in a related field would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children or families with diverse needs and providing appropriate support would be considered an asset. 
  • Must possess and maintain, at minimum, a valid class 4 drivers licence.
  • Must qualify to be insured by MESC’s insurance provider without the Commission being charged an additional premium or surcharge.

Working Conditions

  • Interacts with students, family members, staff, government agencies, and personnel under all circumstances, which may include traumatic situations.
  • Travel required.
  • Manual dexterity required to use a desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting students.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Interacts with students, family members, staff, government agencies, and personnel under all circumstances, which may include traumatic situations.
  • Travel required.

  • Knowledge of the Cree culture and the traditions of the local First Nations communities.
  • Ability to work successfully with children and families.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Understanding of relevant policies, codes of practice, and awareness of relevant legislation.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
  • First Aid qualification or skills preferred.
