Additional Information:
The Custodian is relied upon to maintain clean and safe buildings and surrounding areas. The Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, snow removal and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that MESC facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary way.

The Custodian is responsible to the Daytime/Evening Supervisor.
The Custodian will have specific responsibilities for:
- Cleaning
- Perform routine cleaning duties and minor maintenance as per the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly schedule.
- Clean offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, and recreational facilities.
- Mop tile and concrete floor areas.
- Vacuum all carpeted areas.
- Dust and wipe down all furniture and fixtures as required.
- Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers, fixtures and grout.
- Clean all mirrors.
- Replenish custodial supplies as needed.
- Keep custodial closets clean and organized.
- Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans.
- Place garbage in an outside storage bin.
- Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors, and hardware.
- Keep all outside areas near exits and entrances clear of snow and debris.
- Clean, wash, and disinfect drinking fountains and water bottle fill stations.
- Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware, and glass.
- Perform or report minor maintenance repairs.
- Clean classroom sinks and counters.
- Wash and buff floors with a floor polisher.
- Wash entrance and exit floors.
- Empty garbage, pick up garbage, sweep and remove snow from entrances outside.
- Repairs
- Perform minor maintenance repairs if requested.
- Report damages and acts of vandalism and repair damage (if possible).
- Perform routine hazard assessments on the buildings and surrounding environments.
- Additional responsibilities
- Participate in all required health and safety training.
- Comply with the health and safety program and practices and report violations.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Report all power interruptions, plumbing issues, BMS issues and security concerns in a timely manner.
- Comply with Company Policies and Procedures
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
- Building service worker certificate preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of previous custodial work experience is required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
- Ability to perform small repairs and equipment maintenance.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills needed.
- Ability to deal with students and staff sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Strong working knowledge of e-mail.
- First Aid skills and certification are considered assets.
