Additional Information:
The Principal will demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, provide visionary leadership, and have teaching experience in grade 7-9 classrooms. The Principal will foster a collaborative learning environment in the school where staff and students are supervised in a welcoming, caring, and safe environment. Instructional leadership will be prioritized with ongoing support provided to the teaching and support staff so that all students experience academic success. The Principal will work toward building positive relationships with parents/guardians, community members, and other agencies. The Principal will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of the school are met by adhering to the MESC policies, regulations, and procedures. The Principal will exhibit a commitment to learning and demonstrate self-reflection and a desire for continued growth in leadership.
As a leader in the organization, the Principal will model the intent of the Maskwacis Declaration on Education and the core values of Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan, Nehiyaw Pimâtisiwin, Nehiyawewin, and Wâhkôhtowin. This is evident by:
- Ensuring that decisions are made to the ultimate benefit of Maskwacis students;
- Assisting the Superintendent and the board to ensure that all students benefit from their treaty right to quality education;
- Respecting and promoting the Cree language, spirituality, and traditions within the Education Authority; and
- Providing Maskwacis leadership (the Cree way) in all matters relating to education in the Maskwacis Schools: consensus building, creating dialogue with stakeholders, and empowering leadership in the system.
Qualifications
Interested applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree of education required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Valid Alberta teaching certificate required
- Knowledge of the Nehiyawewin (Cree) language, culture, and traditions is an asset
- At least 5 years of secondary school teaching experience and/or school leadership experience
- Minimum 2 years of educational administrative experience or leadership experience is an asset
